Dr. Mark T. Garny graduated from Michigan State University in 1994 with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science while competing for the school on a full scholarship for gymnastics. While a student athlete for MSU, Dr. Garny made Academic All Big Ten Honors each year and was awarded “Most Valuable Athlete” his senior year. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Garny returned to his hometown of Milwaukee, WI continuing to gain experience in various fields of animal welfare.
A few of his jobs during and after his undergraduate period included performing as a technician at a small animal hospital in Milwaukee, assisting a large animal veterinarian on a buffalo farm, and becoming a zoo keeper at the Milwaukee County Zoo where he worked in some capacity either full or part time over the following six years. Dr. Garny was accepted to the School of Veterinary Medicine-Madison in Fall of 1997 and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UW-Madison in Spring 2001.
Afterward, he completed a one-year Emergency and Critical Care internship at The Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, WI under Drs. Rebecca Kirby and Elke Rudloff. Afterward, Dr. Garny worked at an AAHA- accredited 4.5 doctor community practice for 1.5 years in Wauwatosa, WI prior to returning to his passion for emergency medicine.
For over the last 15 years, Dr. Mark T. Garny has worked exclusively at multiple veterinary specialty referral hospitals throughout Wisconsin and Florida being fortunate to have daily access to specialists in various areas of the profession throughout his career. These have included: Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Exotics, and Oncology.
As the emergency room tends to be a “catch all” of various types of ailments and presentations at all hours of the day, Dr. Mark T. Garny feels fortunate to have been surrounded throughout his career by top specialists in the various fields has aided him significantly in delivering the highest quality of care to his patients regardless of their presenting illness. Dr. Garny takes even further special personal interest in emergency soft tissue surgery, pain management, and nutritional support of the ICU patient.
When not delivering veterinary care to his patients, Dr. Garny tries to enjoy as much time as he can with the amazing family he has been blessed with 5 children. He also is known to be quite the “workout-aholic” spending 5 days a week in the gym, playing sand beach volleyball, tennis, and as many rounds of golf as he can possibly squeeze in. He is also known to be a rabid Green Bay Packer fan.
